Happy Winter Solstice!

Dear Tea Friends

For December Tea Meeting, we had a wonderful vegetarian dinner get together.  It was delicious and it was a lot of food.  It was a small restaurant and there were twenty two of us so we basically took over the restaurant.  I thank Joe for organizing the dinner meeting.  And I would like to thank Dr. Lee for offering Korean Language Center every month for our tea gathering.

The restaurant was run by a Hari Christina group and we had a tour of the temple.

Happy Winter Solstice!  If you did not get to have Winter Solstice porridge, here is one for you.

See you in January!  Our January tea meeting will take place on Friday, January 23rd, 7:30 pm at Korean Language Center.

Tea meeting at Rea's Place

Dear Tea Friends

We had a lovely time drinking tea at Rea's place.  My sincere thanks to Rea for hosting us.  It was an enchanting evening of tea drunkenness.  In drinking tea, there are three important things to remember.  The first is breath.  The second is the cycle of life.  The third is the enjoyment.  Tongue wet with delicious magic of tea accompanied by deep, relaxed breath invite salivation from the back of the throat.  This is called the Jade Pearl, known as the medicine of immortality.  In preparing and drinking tea, be aware of the rhythm of life; spring, summer, autumn and winter; birth, growth, harvest and rest; morning, afternoon, evening and night.  Make and drink tea according to it.  And always enjoy the company of tea, and company of the people drinking tea with you!
In October we are going back to Korean Language Center for our tea meeting.  See you on October 24th, Friday at 7pm.

Summer time tea in NYC

For our June tea meeting we had fresh green teas from Korea.  Hand made "dami" tea from Korea.  Hand picked and hand roasted by a Buddhist monk Jidam.  He hand picks fresh green tea leaves from the wild tea trees growing in the Jiri mountains where his Buddhist temple is located.

We also tasted this year's spring tender picks by the youngest daughter of Cho Taeyeon.  We had tasted green teas by Cho Taeyon before, but it is the first time tasting green tea made by one of his children.  Her first flush green tea had the most tea oil of any tea that I had ever tasted.  As soon as the tea entered my mouth the thick tea oil coated my mouth, throat and stomach, absolutely amazing.

Dr. Lee is an imminent linguist.  He got his doctorate in Turkey.  Korean, Turkish, Finnish, Japanese, and Mongolian all belong in the same language group.  If you are curious about Finnish, all I can tell you is that the northern Finnish people have the most Korean DNA among all ethnic groups.  I know it sounds strange.  But it is all connected with how Koreans have DNA that most closely resembles 6000 years old frozen shaman from Siberia.  Anyway Dr. Lee surprised us with teas from Turkey served in crystal cups.  It was delicious.  He promises more tea from around the world next time.  Speaking of next time.  Our July tea meeting will take place on Friday, July 25th at 7 pm at Korea Language Institute.  See you there.
